A vacancy has arisen within the Kent/Essex Police Serious Crime Directorate – Serious Economic Crime Unit for the role of Financial Investigator based at Essex Headquarters, Chelmsford.


The successful candidate will investigate the financial status and activity of persons engaged in acquisitive crime in order to identify those liable for asset recovery through the Courts. In addition they will support targeted criminal and life at risk investigations.


A desirable criteria is that applicants hold a current accreditation as a Financial Investigator with the National Crime Agency.


It is essential that applicants are able to demonstrate a good understanding of criminal investigations and are able to demonstrate an investigative mindset.


Applicants not holding accreditation must be prepared to undertake and pass the relevant courses to obtain accreditation.


The post holder will be required  to:


  • Analyse and assess documentary evidence obtained in order to prepare statements of evidential quality or visual representations and spreadsheets, to be presented at court hearings. This will include attending court and presenting evidence as a witness, when required at both trial and confiscation stages.


  • Advise and support officers force-wide in matters relating to financial investigation and the use of the Proceeds of Crime Act and associated legislation to maximize the recovery of the proceeds from criminal activity and victim compensation.


  • Apply (where legislation allows) to a Crown Court Judge for court orders, prepare formal statements / affidavits in order to obtain Crown Court and High Court restraining orders to secure vital documentary evidence and prevent the removal / disposal of criminal assets.


  • Liaise with banks and other financial institutions to obtain evidence in cash seizure and criminal investigations



The post holder must possess a valid driving license for class B vehicles (car) and be prepared to drive and travel, and will be required to have appropriate car insurance in place when in post to allow business use.


There will be a departmental requirement to contribute to a weekend working rota of 1 weekend in a 24 week pattern rotation.


This role places you at the very forefront of removing criminal wealth and ensuring crime does not pay. It is expected that you will work with minimal supervision yet maintain a high workload in a demanding environment, the success of which will depend on you. In return you will take satisfaction from tackling crime, returning compensation to victims and doing a job that makes a real difference.


The successful applicant will be required to undertake vetting to SC and MV level.
