An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of Fraud Prevention Coordinator the successful candidate will be covering the West of the County, with the designated working station being Thurrock but most of the time is spent in the community, The prevent and protect team also have an office in Rayleigh where some staff members also work from.

 

Fraud has a severe impact on the lives and wellbeing of our community. Essex Police are seeking a motivated individual who wishes to take an active role in delivering the response to this issue, making a difference to the community of West Essex but also to be able to support the team in other areas of the County as required.

 

You should have good communication skills as you will be dealing with the most vulnerable victims of Fraud and need to provide them with bespoke advice and support to protect them from becoming repeat victims. You will also be required to deliver community engagement, delivering Fraud mitigation advice to provide the community of Essex with the information they need to protect themselves from becoming a victim of fraud.

 

You should also have a good and basic understanding of Fraud and the types of Fraud and what the enablers are to fraud, this will help in advising victims and members of the public how best to protect themselves.

 

You should have an analytical mind as part of the role requirement is analysing data to identify victims and trends of Fraud to support other areas of the business to implement suitable local interventions. We receive weekly fraud vulnerable victim data, as well as having to contact these victims it is necessary that the data is analysed to identify current trend/threats which will allow us to implement mitigation plans.

 

You should also be open minded and innovative, Fraud is the largest reported crime type with Fraudsters utilising various techniques to exploit the most vulnerable members of our society. With these victims being vulnerable you will be expected to identify innovative ways in which to prevent them from becoming a repeat victim and be open minded to new methods which help victims recognise and understand how they have become a victim and they can prevent themselves from becoming repeat victim.

 

Partnership working and advanced information searching would also be desirable but not essential to this role.

 

The main purpose of the role is for you to:

 

  • Review national data analysing the threat, harm and risk of repeat targeting to identify high risk vulnerable victims of fraud within Essex ensuring that the appropriate referral, visit or intervention is offered in order to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Act as the point of contact for the identification, coordination and management of vulnerable victims of fraud within Essex, ensuring a victim centred approach is undertaken contributing to both national and force priorities
  • Build and develop relationships with internal departments and external partner agencies and charities to assist in effectively promoting volunteer opportunities in support of the National Op Signature campaign to identify and support vulnerable victims of fraud within Essex.
  • Research and analyse National best practise to improve the force response to vulnerable victims of fraud ensuring that best practise is consistently applied across Essex, driving activity through local and force governance structures.
  • Coordinate partnership activities relating to victims of fraud, building and maintaining effective working relationships with volunteers, internal and external stakeholders, representing Essex Police as required ensuring that relevant and timely information is supplied to the support volunteers and partner agencies in order that they can undertake assessments, home visits and relevant intervention programmes.
  • Arrange and maintain records with regards to visits undertaken, advice and action taken, referrals to partnership agencies or charities ensuring that all vulnerable victims identified are supported.

 

Essex Police offer agile working which allows some flexibility in terms of work arrangements. Due to the operational nature of this role, it will be predominantly office based within an office-based team. Some travel may be required to other police sites to discharge duty.
