A full time vacancy has arisen in the Legal Services Department for a Paralegal (Civil Claims). This is a challenging role where the post holder will investigate and research all aspects of public and employer liability claims against the Chief Constable of Kent Police in order to assess liability, respond to and effectively defend claims.
The successful Candidate will also be required to assist the Head of Legal Services and lawyers within the Department in other areas of police law as and when necessary.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to research, collate evidence and collect appropriate and accurate documentation to support the building of case papers to a high standard through detailed and comprehensive reports. Candidates should be able to produce a full range of documentation and correspondence to a high professional standard, and have the experience to ensure all files are appropriately compiled and completed within the required timescales. The ability to work using your own initiative is essential, supported by sound administrative experience.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills as they will be required to discuss cases with police witnesses obtain necessary reports and respond to claims. Candidates should have a detailed knowledge of police law, the civil court process and must be able to demonstrate knowledge of both criminal and civil law. It is desirable that the Candidate has knowledge of the practical application of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984
We are seeking a self-motivated, confident and well organized individual who is able to manage and prioritise their work effectively and have the ability to use their own judgment to deal with confidential matters. Good keyboard skills are essential with a sound knowledge of Microsoft products including Word to intermediate standard.

Kent Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £35,802.00.
